Why your theology matters.

A NOTE BEFORE READING: It is important to specify that, for purposes of this article, when I am talking about theology, I will be using such a term within the Christian context and framework. Theology, simply put, is the “study of God,” and as one may know, there are many religions throughout the world that believe in a ‘god’. I must also state that I am not conflating theology and religious studies in this article — although the two can overlap at times, I have no intention to go into in-depth details about either.

My goal for this article is simple: For Christians who have grown up in and around the faith yet have not had strong teaching in its content and history — and are now beginning to question/deconstruct everything — I propose that theology is the space and field for one to engage in such inquiry. With this in mind, let us begin.

Theology should not be viewed as an answer for all your questions but rather a space to wrestle with said questions.

You can love God and study theology; the two are not at odds with one another, however, for many of us who have grown up in and around Evangelicalism, theology can be a dirty word and you ought to avoid those dang liberal theologians.
